Whenever a significant awards ceremony nears, you'll find a demand for the addition fresh award types to honor unsung work and fill the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types successfully include many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
The Representation Problem
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category during that awards season
- Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Only a few logic titles scraped into niche award types
Significance of Puzzle Games
Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences globally continuing this trend for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
